Employers merely scan through CV’s when recruiting new candidates for a job. They merely spend a minute or even less in going through CV’s. Employers will therefore love your air traffic controller CV when written in a manner they expect. Having an attractive presentation, conciseness and conventional use of font sizes and styles would be a plus. More so, provide only information that is suitable for the daily operational duties of an air traffic controller.

You should have your air traffic controller resume written in two pages. That is adequate space to have your professional experiences, training and qualifications well captured. If you however have been a supervisor, or have had several years experience in a Senior Controller position, then, you might need more than two pages to fully highlight your career profile, experience and expertise.

It is crucial to have you air traffic controller CV written in an orderly fashion. Making sure to have a nice layout and a simple presentation will make the reader discern your thought easily. Ensure consistency of the entire document from head to bottom in terms of font styles and sizes and have it written in black. Remember that Arial and Times New Roman are internationally accepted font sizes. Your headings should be bolded using font sizes 14 or 16 whiles keeping the body in size 10 or 12.

Make the first few sentences of your CV so catchy to encourage the reader to fully read your CV. Do well to present your background as an air traffic controller stating clearly your objectives since it covers your professional profile and happen to appear in the first section of the CV. Then go on to highlight appropriate skills summarizing key skills areas in bulleted form in no more than eight lines as shown below:

  • Proactive team player
  • Have excellent mathematical skills
  • Highly developed spatial consciousness
  • Have the ability to blend high volume of information from different sources quickly
  • Ability to work under pressure and emergency situations
  • Good communication skills for giving accurate instructions
  • Ability to solving problems on my own and taking decisions independently

Present your professional work experience before your education if you have years of experience as an air traffic controller, and show how you used these skills to bring value to the job. As a newly qualified candidate with little experience in the past, highlight your education and training before work experience and also ensure that you capture appropriate accreditations and other papers you have earned in subjects like Mathematics and English.

Lastly, always let your CV be in the third person making minimal use of “I”.  Also, previous experiences on the job and academic qualifications should be written with their respective dates and any commendable actions and sterling performances on the job should be highlighted.
